Whole Plant Cannabinoids versus CBD Isolate – What’s the Difference

Trichomes on the hemp/cannabis plant are where the majority of cannabinoids, like CBD (but not limited to CBD) exist.  These tiny little crystal-like hairs are barely visible to the eye.  The above photo shows them on the same type of hemp plant that That’s Natural uses for its CBD-rich hemp oil products.  This picture was taken using a low-power microscope.

Whole plant cannabinoids (and naturally occurring terpenes) are present in CBD oils that are extracted as oil from the plants themselves – and not further processed beyond that point.  The oil, which can be extracted through a variety of methods, comes from the leaves, stems, and flowers of the plant – with the majority of cannabinoids coming from trichomes (pictured above) that can be found on the flower, stem, and leaves of the hemp.  The oil contains not only CBD, but also other cannabinoids that are naturally occurring in the plant, as well as terpenes, and the essential fatty acids that are also inherently part of the plant.

CBD that comes from an ‘isolate’ most likely originated from a hemp/cannabis plant (not completely synthesized in a lab) – however, the CBD was isolated out from all of the other plant material – so that the only remaining component is ‘crystals’ of CBD.  This product looks like a white powder – it does not contain any other naturally occurring parts of the plant from which it came.

At That’s Natural, we believe that whole-plant foods and medicines – are the purest and most natural way to consume products that may have beneficial and holistic healing properties.  We believe that nature – is pretty smart – and following nature’s laws, for instance, in distilling and preserving compounds in essential oils (like CBD oil extracted from hemp) is a fundamental part of making sure that the body has what it needs to metabolize the compounds.

For our That’s Natural CBD-rich products, we use whole-plant oils from hemp plants that were grown using organic and biodynamic farming practices.  We work directly with the farmers and distillers – to ensure that the quality of our oils are never compromised.  We believe that having a whole-plant oil with a full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes – is what makes our product so potent and effective for our customers.

No matter what type of product that you decide to try – be sure and ask these four important questions – to protect you and your loved ones.  You deserve to know what you are putting in and on your body!
